AAT Syllabus guidance

What is AAT Q2022?

This is the name for the new qualifications due to be launched by AAT in September 2022, to replace the previous standards (AQ2016).

All students registering for the first time with AAT from September 2022 will sit Q2022 assessments, whereas those who have already commenced AAT exams on AQ2016 can continue to do so until Summer 2023. If you are not sure which qualification you are due to be studying, please check with your training provider.

infoFor transitional guidance for existing students, and further information relating to the syllabus, please see our Syllabus Guidance page.

What has changed?

As it has been six years since the last syllabus update, the changes are quite substantial. New business-related units have been introduced at both Levels 2 and 3, and units have been merged to reduce the number of assessments required.

The Using Accounting Software unit has been removed from the syllabus and the financial accounting papers at Level 3 and management accounting units at Level 4 will now become one assessment each. Other than for apprentices, there will be no synoptic assessments for either Levels 3 or 4.

Will the study materials be different to AQ2016?

As a result of the above, all of Kaplan Publishing's study materials have been extensively updated and revised to factor in both the new content and also the changes caused by the amalgamation of the above AQ2016 units.

Many of the Study Texts will cover a larger amount of learning outcomes than previously, but we have ensured that our usual assessment-focused approach will keep your studies on track.

Which books will be produced for Q2022?

There will be a Study Text, Exam Kit and Pocket Notes for all of the new units. The Study Texts are written by expert tutors in a student-friendly style, to ensure that you have all the information you need to have the best chance of exam success. They include a mock in the book and a further mock online via MyKaplan.

The Exam Kits provide plenty of practice opportunities for your assessment. They have been updated to include the best questions for the new assessments and also include a mock in the book and a further online mock.

The Pocket Notes are perfect for the revision phase, summarising key topics and reinforcing learning from the other materials. In addition to this, we will be providing Exam Kits for the End Point Assessments for Level 2 and Level 3 apprentices.

When will Q2022 books be available?

The vast majority of Study Texts, Exam Kits and Pocket Notes will be available on this site from 4th April 2022 and will be valid for assessments until Summer 2023. Some tax materials and new content may follow slightly later, but all books should be available before the end of the year.
